A FAMILY ADVENTURE BEGINNING IN 1951, CONTINUED TODAY BY THE GRANDCHILDREN.
Located in Chassagne-Montrachet, the Domaine Famille Picard was founded in 1951 by Louis Félix Picard, then owner of 2 hectares of vines in the commune of Chagny. His son, Michel Picard, joined him a few years later. Indeed, at the age of 15, Michel Picard left school at his father's request to help with his daily tasks. A symbol illustrating this remarkable journey, already imbued with a desire to go further, is a Peugeot three-wheeled vehicle parked today at the entrance to the Château de Chassagne-Montrachet. It was in this three-wheeled vehicle that Michel Picard set off for years to explore the Burgundy vineyards and meet its people. In the early 1970s, he took over the family estate, supported by his wife, Liliane, who also came from a winemaking family. In 1986, he acquired his first estate, Château de Davenay, renowned in particular for its Montagny 1er Cru "Clos Chaudron". In 1997, he purchased Château de Chassagne-Montrachet. Through passion, courage, and perseverance, Michel Picard has built, over the years, a family wine estate recognized by his peers.
From the 2000s onwards, the Picard family decided to expand into other French vineyards. This desire to explore new horizons was not a break, but a natural continuation, that of a family driven by curiosity, discovery, and the desire to reveal other expressions of wine.
In 2003, she made her first foray into the Rhône Valley with the acquisition of J. Denuzière in Condrieu, the birthplace of great Viognier wines. Then, building on this experience and captivated by the diversity of the southern terroirs, she continued her journey to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, taking over Domaine St Patrice, in the heart of this exceptional vineyard.
Today, Francine Picard is the conductor of all the family's estates and guarantor of a common inter-regional philosophy.
